O-LED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. Similar to a LED they do contain 2 different electrodes but are based on films extracted from carbon. These films are placed in between both electrodes where one is metallic known as the cathode & other one is transparent known as an anode. Most commonly transparent one is actually a glass.

LED (Light emitting diodes) works on the basic phenomenon of moving electronics between two unlike terminals that are cathode and anode. The flow of electrons between these two positive and negative terminals occurs due to the phenomenon of electroluminescence. When the current start to flow it makes the electrons moves towards the N and P-type junctions of a semiconductor. As the kinetic energy of electron rises to the maximum level, the electrons at the p-n junctions excites and jumps off and eventually electron loses its extra energy. This loss of energy causes ordinary diodes to heat and release extra energy. Although this loss of extra energy in LED technology takes place in the form of photons and when a packet of photon release it emit lights in the form of energy of different colors .
LED operates by converting electrical energy into light energy by means of direct conversion method whereas the incandescent source of light operates through traditional means by burning a filament until it turns red hot. Similarly, compact fluorescent lamps comprise of UV discharging mechanism alongside phosphor to provide light. HID lamps on other hand operate through a mixture of different gasses kept within a discharge tube ultimately resulting in the production of photons.
